Quick Update
After close to a month of getting casts cut off and new ones put on every week, Ivan finally said good-bye to his last pair of serial casts (at least for now). It was a day of rejoicing!! Our little man was such a trooper and really only had one pair that were very uncomfortable for him, but getting them sawed off every week was pretty traumatic for him. I couldn't have been prouder of how he handled everything though! He is so sweet and quickly won the heart of the pt who did the casting.
Gillette's goal through the serial casting was to get at least a 10 degree range of motion out of his feet....
Success!!! |
The results have truly been remarkable!! Before it was impossible for his feet to do this on their own!! So what's next?? Well, right now we're just continuing to stretch his feet throughout the day to keep these amazing results until he gets his AFO's which he will be casted for in the next couple weeks.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with what AFO's are, basically they are similar to braces. They will start under his knee and go down to his foot. He'll wear them throughout the day as they will help support his ankles and feet, giving him a much better chance to bear weight and begin standing and walking.
He also has a prescription for knee immobilizers which will help his legs to straighten more which will again, increase his chances of being able to bear weight on those tiny little legs of his.
So as you can tell, there are still many exciting new things in store for our little man!
He thought it was hilarious that I was just taking pictures of his feet |
Other than all the crazy adjustments to new casts every week and continued therapies, Ivan has just been soaking in all the perks of Summer with a family.
Fathers day donuts with Daddy |
This kid will eat at least 4 slices of watermelon at a sitting! |
Both the boys LOVE watching the world cup with daddy! |
We're seeing a lot of progress with Ivan's self feeding. The wrist splints have really helped :) |

Ivan playing with friends on the 4th of July |
So there you have it, a little glimpse of how our Summer is going.
Ivan has changed our lives more than we could of ever imagined. Seeing his joy in the small things that we so easily take for granted opens our eyes to God's richest blessings.
We celebrated having Ivan home with us for 8 months on the 4th of July. How fitting that the day we reflect on our freedom as a nation God also had us reflecting on the freedom that our little boy is experiencing now. It's a freedom that we have fought for him to know and one that we will continue to fight for him to live in everyday.
A freedom to know the love of a family.
